Can you have IBS with no pain?

About 8 years ago my doc said I had IBS (diarrhea) and to eat more fiber - Metamucil specifically. The thing is I have few symptoms and extremely short warnings with watery diarrhea. Gurgling in the digestive tract is only warning sign. Can you have IBS without any or very few other symptoms? Metamucil was helping but I got tired of taking it. My new doc recommends inulin which is much easier to use but not sure if as effective. I’ve been treated for gluten and lactose plus several bacteria and similar tests but all were negative.

Does this sound familiar to anyone?

I had a colonoscopy after diagnosis with no results pointing to cause if diarrhea, and the diarrhea came back right after the test so at this point only one diagnosis remains IBS.

  1. It's absolutely possible to have IBS with no pain. I mostly don't get pain, and we've had a similar discussion here: https://irritablebowelsyndrome.net/forums/ibs-no-pain where you can read about other community members' experiences.
During the past 8 years, have you tried adjusting your diet to see if something you eat is causing this? Common triggers include gluten (even if you tested negative for Celiac), dairy, caffeine, fatty foods, artificial sweeteners, onions, garlic, ...
The Low FODMAP diet and keeping a food diary can be very helpful as well if you haven't tried that already.
I hope other community members will share their experiences with you soon.
