Awful wind

Hello all, had ibs for at least 14 years, usually flare ups of D and wind, I’ve been on tablets to slow my digestive system down and these wore off, I’ve had a colonoscopy which was all clear, numerous stool samples over the years and they have all been clear .

For the last 6 months I have had horrific sulphur smelling wind on a daily basis, I can’t seem to link it to any food as I have ruled out what i thought was triggers such as milk, juices, fizzy drinks etc and it’s been no help. I went to the drs who prescribed me laxatives as they said it could be a trapped stool but I don’t have any trouble going to the loo so this didn’t work either.

The wind is so awful it’s affecting my relationship, if I was to leave the room everytime I needed to pass wind it would be every 2 minutes. It’s really embarrassing. I have also noticed my stools always float now which they never used to, which I assume is additional gas…the dr didn’t seem phased by this.

I am on citalopram for depression so I am afraid if things like charcoal would work or make things worse…

Any help would be appreciated.

  1. I'm so sorry that you're dealing with this! Activated charcoal is the only thing that ever helped me with bloating, but it didn't really get better until I cut out gluten completely. Have you tried doing that?
Have you been tested for SIBO recently? Here's an article about that: https://irritablebowelsyndrome.net/living/getting-tested-for-sibo. If not, I would maybe consider talking to your doctor about it.
Hopefully, other community members will share their experiences with you!
Wishing you quick relief, Karina (team member)

    1. Can you ask your doctor if it's possible to be breath-tested for SIBO? Some doctors are not into and some are. Also have you tried peppermint oil? That can be in capsules or even food grade peppermint oil in hot water (only about 2 drops)
I do pass quite a bit of wind on waking up and getting up every morning, but strangely it has no smell at all, and is just like excess "air" ! I don't have the exact same symptoms so haven't done the above, but they might help you?
