Anyone here with SIBO-experience?

I really need some answers because (from what I've read) SIBO seems to fit my bill but here in Germany most doctors seem to be incompetent and just do the same non-conclusive tests over and over without getting in touch and asking each other (meaning all of them just live in their small bubble).

These are my symptoms (you'll see its more or less "Gas - the musical"😉:
- excessive belching after meals (after meals drinking triggers more belching)
- pain and bloating in abdomen (mostly about 1-2 hours after meal)
- food sensitivities keep piling up (FODMAP seemed to help for years but now I went from "small amount of berries to no berries" a.s.o.
- starting to feel symptoms of malnutrition (dry skin/waking up at nights)
- probiotics seem to make things worse (when they used to help with my IBS-D)
- undigested food in stool (eventho pancreas is working well)

What do you think? :-/ I'm not really sure what to ask my doctors to do next (they are mostly only starting to work when you come up with things to test on your own).

  1. It definitely sounds like it can be SIBO. Try to stay away from sugar, and anything with yeast in it, so no bread or pasta. Eat prebiotic foods. Asparagus, onion, leeks, fermented foods like sauerkraut. Sorry you aren't getting much help from doctors where you are. That is so heartbreaking. Perhaps probiotics can help too? -Elizabeth (team member)

    1. Well that isn't easy because I need carbs to stay afloat (I'm already nearing the underweight-number). I eliminated sugar tho..
All the prebiotic foods are on my black list because they make things 100 times worse (they are all high in FODMAPs too).
Probiotics (as mentioned above) make it worse.

I'm currently debating just taking something called "Sibosan" which consits of Bacillus subitilis DM-111 and anti-bacterial oils (like oregano/thyme oil). It's supposed to (gently) help treat an over-colonization of the small intestines.
At this point I'm so desperate to try anything, that I'm almost willing to take the risk :-/ It could be worse tho ... .

    2. I hear you. Perhaps you can try these things under the supervision of a Naturopathic Doctor or Naturopath? I saw an NMD and he gave me supplements to kill off the SIBO while eating no sugar or foods with yeast. I felt better in three weeks. I know what you mean bout being desperate. I've been there. -Elizabeth (team member)

  2. Hey there . I have been experiencing similar symptoms. It is difficult to differentiate between ibs and Sibo for both have almost the same symptoms. I myself was diagnosed with ibs and only after many trials was finally diagnosed with sibo. I actually did a breathing test we’re we have to blow air and it will be tested for the presence of methane and hydrogen. Another thing that will help is that if you don’t have persistent constipation or diahheroa like said by most patients and more trapped wind and gas issues it is quite clear you have sibo. But here again it can vary for some even these might be the main symptoms. Doing the test is the best option. Probiotics did not work for me too and I also have both gluten and lactose intolerance the doc gave a food allergy and after some trial and error it is pretty good now. Try taking sibo wan it always works and is not know for much side effects.

    1. Hey there! 😀 Thanks a lot. Yeah, I luckily have pretty okay stool whenever I had these (long-lasting) SIBO-flare-ups (maybe apart from undigested traces in my stool). Whenever a flare-up went away (last 2 times I tried probiotics and in the end some seemed to have worked at least for a few months), I was able to eat food at a greater variety.
I have already sworn myself to never touch sugar/ultra-processed foods and more carbs than needed if I ever leave this flare-up behind me. I'd do anything just to add stuff like berries (blueberries/raspberries), fatty fish like salmon, more (different) carbs like potatoes and more FODMAP heavier veggies like broccoli to my diet again.
Question: What do you mean by "Sibo wan"? Never heard that name before. I thought antibiotics+Saccharomyces boulardii was the way to go?

  3. Ok, wish me luck you guys! Because my doctors are taking waaaay to long to help me (being on vacation/not trying anything to help me), I'll now start taking a probiotic called Sibosan beginning tomorrow (hopefully for 4 weeks - let's see how hard the side reactions will hit me).

The probiotic consits of bacillus subtilis DM-111 (strengthens intestinal barrier/fights overpopulation of bacteria in the smaller intestines)/ Lysozym (eliminates the outter barrier of bacteria and is natually prevelant in the human body) and the 3 antibacterial oils Eugenol, Carvacrol, Thymol in a dose of 35mg). I read two instances of medical professionals treating SIBO using it and I'll just take my chances.
Worst case scenario (I hope) is side effects that go away after a while and I do have an appointment with my doctor on thursday for a ultrasonic anways.
I know it's a risk to take but currently I feel aweful not trying anything while I can eat less and less foods.

    1. Really hope it helps :-/ I'm a bit nervous now. I really have to start it slow - they tell you to take 2-3 pills a day, I'll start with 1, I'd say.

  4. Hey there . I was actually recommending the probiotic Sibosan. I guess it was a typing error. I tried it myself and it worked well. It is generally not know for it’s side effects. Good luck and all the very best

    1. That is really cool to hear 😀 I'll take my first capsule today with lunch and plan on taking 1 capsule for one more day until I feel good enough to take 2 with meals.

Curious about your case: Did some of your "food sensitivities" get better by using it? How long did you take it and did you take 2 or 3 capsules per day?
The oils in there are scary and amazing at the same time. On one handside essential oils can be very scary for someone with not-too-healthy intestines, on the other handside all three of them are known to help with bacterial overgrowth and are supposed to be calming and anti-inflammatory.
