Anyone deal with this?

My doctor thinks I contracted travelers diarrhea while in Aruba and didn’t go away for over a month. Stool and blood sample negative for everything. (Celiac, parasites, bacteria, etc). Did one round of two types of antibiotics and they think I developed IBS-D from the travel’s diarrhea and gut disruption. Everything else is fine regarding energy level, appetite, sleep, working out etc. Going in at the end of the month for a colonoscopy to rule out any other issues.
Has anyone dealt with something like this before?

  1. Thanks for sharing and reaching out. I hope our community chimes in to share their personal experiences with you. Glad to hear that you are feeling well otherwise and that you have an appointment scheduled. I'd encourage you to continue to speak with your doctor about any new, changing or concerning symptoms. In addition to speaking with your doctor, this article may be helpful to you: https://irritablebowelsyndrome.net/living/did-antibiotics-cause-ibs. Have you asked your doctor about trying any Probitocs? What is your diet like right now? Any difference you notice in your diarrhea base don what foods you eat? Wishing you some answers and relief soon. Best, Kelly, Irritablebowelsyndrome.net Team Member

    1. You did 2 rounds of antibiotics? More like those destroyed your whole bacteria in your gut
      I'd wager.

It's really important you help people here with more details like f.e.
      When was the trip?
How long did you wait before taking antibiotics?
How long did you take antibiotics?
      a.s.o.

      1. Hi there

This is how my gut issues started many years ago. I had a bout of dysentry when living in Dubai since then i have had numerous tests, colonoscopies, endoscopy everything comes back normal but the IBS remains it's exhausting. I was also given antibiotics which always upset me anyway.
I do hope you will have some answers soon and the diarreah doesn't continue. Good luck

        1. That's terrible, I'm so sorry. Have you found anything that helps with your symptoms? Karina (team member)

      2. yes -- I've always had a sensitive gut but after a trip to India in 2007, during which I had really severe traveler's diarrhea, my IBS got much worse. It is very much under control now (years later) but whenever I travel anywhere at all, even it's it's Florida, I get a flare.
