Amitriptyline

Hi IBS friends,
I have been reading articles for so many years which have supplied helpful advice, tips and ideas to make life easier when living with IBS( mixed).
It has been very supportive to know so many others share my symptoms, distress and depression. The life stories posted have been inspiring and at times have giving me a laugh ( though nothing funny about IBS) but mostly a feeling of support knowing I’m not alone.

I won’t go into too many details as you’ve read it all before but
the one medication that has helped me to have the last 6 months of a normal life ( I’m almost too nervous to tempt fate and post this) is starting on a low dose of amitriptyline …it has changed my life!
No flares apart from two minor episodes that were only a 3/10 in severity.
If this drug helps one person out there then I will be happy.
Jaye

PS my diet is not adventurous but it is no longer boring as I now am adding some previously forbidden foods! Bliss!

      1. It's very encouraging to hear that you have found something to help...quite a lot! And being able to expand your diet is always good. I haven't tried amitriptyline. It's so good that it has helped you very much to be able to live a bit more normally.

I have made some progress with homeopathy but it has been a long, slow, subtle kind of process, with some set backs. Yet, when I look back, things are generally a bit better now than in 2020, and I have also been able to introduce more foods. Fingers crossed, I seem to be holding my own with avocado now! I try to introduce one food each week; a food I enjoyed before. Sometimes it works, and I find I can generally re-introduce that food into my diet, and sometimes I find I CAN, but have to be a bit careful with it and not eat it too regularly.

        1. hI! Can I know the dosage of amitriptilyne you take? I take 25mg and it's working but not 100%. Thank you!!!
