Abdominal cramps

Hi all again. I have recently posted two topics on here but lately I have no respite from symptoms. After almost every meal I suffer discomfort and cramping. I take buscopan cramps and peppermint oil capsules which give short term relief until the next meal. I also, of course, suffer with diahorrea but the cramping is more frequent. Please can anyone help with advise.TIA

  1. Hello Yvonne, I wish I could be helpful with advice, but I am going through the same thing for the last few days, since last Thursday. I am not sure what to do with it myself.
Breakfast (brunch really) is always okay. I can only eat ciabatta toast and I have that with some butter and one piece with honey. I never get symptoms after breakfast. Maybe it's because it's such a light meal...or perhaps because I get active after it, or because I've had a morning bowel movement. I don't know.

I don't get real problems with discomfort until about 4-5 hours after dinner in the evening. Usually about 10pm. Then my lower abdomen starts bloating, and feels heavy and stretched and uncomfortable (rather than actual pains) I feel something moving about low down on the left and massage it, and sometimes manage to pass a tiny bit of wind which helps minimally. But that feeling never goes away until I fall asleep.
I take peppermint tea and make it extra strong with 2 teabags. Sometimes I add a camomile teabag to it also. Sometimes that has helped a bit, but not got rid of it.
It's a very unpleasant feeling every evening. I'm fine when the food is in my stomach, happy to feel satisfied after eating. I am fine for the first 4 hours or so then it starts low down. It makes no difference what I eat. I am restricted to ultra-safe foods right now but that doesn't help.

If I lie down on the floor on something soft it relaxes me and helps, but again doesn't get rid of it 100%. I lie and watch a movie or listen to music, and be mindful of my breathing.
I tried going for a gentle walk about 9-10pm but that made me feel worse even though it helped me pass a little bit of wind. I think because I was basically tired out that it was unhelpful.
I have had a couple of the "d" flares the last couple of days too first thing in the morning. So I think with me, it's all just a part of a flare up.
I happens sometimes, then doesn't happen again for a while, etc.

    1. Thank you for
taking time to reply. We seem to be in a similar situation and are unable to find a solution. I haven't tried ciabatta toast but will now to see if that helps. My problems usually start mid morning for a few hours. Thankfully my evenings tend to be kinder to me. I also find a hot water bottle beneficial when placed on my abdomen. Hope this helps you a little as your reply comforts me.x

      1. Have you tried an elimination diet? It was the only thing i did that fixed it, because i was eating/ drinking things that my system was sensitive to. Gut cramps so bad i was nearly house bound for months. Made me desperate enough to go through the grueling experience that is a food elimination diet!
Try gluten free 1st, that one is a biggie in the ibs world!

        1. Hi ,thanks for your reply and suggestions. I have eliminated certain foods due to their effects on me. Have tried gluten free with no effect. Don’t eat onions, tomatoes, pastry, garlic, curry, most fruits and green veg,The list goes on. But saying that I have a relatively healthy diet!!
