IBS Flare UP!!

Hi everyone! Just wondering, when any of you get an IBS flare-up, how long do they usually tend to last? I have been dealing with this flare up since this past weekend (I have IBS-D), so I think today makes it day 4 or 5. I feel terrible, but life and work doesn't stop just because of my IBS. So, does anyone have any tips on how to make it pass faster and how to start feeling like myself again?? Thanks in advance!

  1. Hi ,

Thank you for the excellent question. I think you'll find the duration of our flare ups range from quite short to unbearably long. My tendency is to try to make myself as comfortable as possible, drink lots of water, vitamins and meditation. Hopefully, others will chime in but I'm sure if you search the site you will find tons of information about how to deal with flares. I'm including an article to get you started. https://irritablebowelsyndrome.net/living/lifestyle-changes/ Remember we are here for your support and thank you again for sharing. -Todd, IrritableBowelSyndrome.net Team

    1. I'm new here, and have been reading a lot about everyone else's problems with flare-ups. I'm super stressed out from an accident, 18 wheeler vs. my car, 12/31/18 at 8:30am. My deposition is coming up for the lawsuit I filed against the company and most likely will end up in trial. I have IBS-D and this flare up has has been going on since February. It just won't stop. I take Dicyclamine (Bentyl) 3x/day, and eat Metamucil wafers 2x/day. It helps the flare-up every once in a while. I just wish I knew how to completely stop it.

    2. , Welcome to the Irritablebowelsyndrome.net community! I am so sorry you are having a difficult time. Flares are extremely frustrating and seem to happen more frequently (and more intensely) during stressful times. It sounds like you are dealing with more than your fair share of stress. I wish I had the solution to share with you. Sadly, all I can offer you is my support. You are not alone, and I am rooting for you to have many symptom-free days in the future. -Amy, IrritableBowelSyndrome.net Team

  2. Following as my last flare was two stinking months. I just keep taking the meds and eating bland foods multiple times per day and trying to work and get extra sleep as I'm up half the night also. Depends have become my friend!

    1. Hi Amy. My Doctor doesn't even know what to do. The treatment he put me on works for all of his other patients, except for me. Haha, I'm the difficult one! Today was okay, not great, but okay. I'll take that over a bad day. Thank you so much for your support. I'm glad I stumbled across this website! - Danielle

      1. , it is so frustrating when you can't find something that helps. I'm glad you are having a better day today, and I hope tomorrow is even better. I'm glad you found us, too! 😀 -Amy, IrritableBowelSyndrome.net Team
