Has anyone here tried Amitriptyline for IBS-D?

Has anyone here tried Amitriptyline for IBS D? I am reading some very good reviews!

  1. Hi ,

I have not personally tried Amitriptyline for IBS, but have tried many other anti-depressants. I see that this particular medication can be used off-label for IBS treatment. The best course of action is to speak with a doctor about this medication. It is an anti-depressant developed in the 50's that has since been replaced, in general, by newer medications. This is definitely a doctor conversation, if you haven't spoken with anyone yet. Perhaps someone will chime in with their experiences if they have tried this medication. I hope you are well today. -Todd, IrritableBowelSyndrome.net Team

    1. Following. My doctor just prescribed this for me however I have taken St. John's Wort for many years and am hesitant to try it. I have been told that you have to take more than 10 mg to be classified as an anti depressant. I have also learned that it does cause drowsiness so should be taken at night

      1. yes I do. 25mg each evening for long years now. It's helping A LOT.
