To Cancel Plans or Not?

Debating about whether to cancel plans or go to an event and be on edge with my stomach/risk embarrassment/etc is a daily decision that's exhausting. I assume I'm not alone in this. I'm generally able to keep nearly all my social plans, but I won't eat for the entire day leading up to it, or will make excuses at a dinner party as to why I'm not hungry so I don't risk having to run to the bathroom and be there in forever. Just wanted to throw this out there and see what others have to say...

  1. Oh definitely! This happens to me all the time. With age, I've just decided not to put myself through hell. If my stomach feels slightly off I just say no. If I feel great, you better believe I'm going. But I have become excellent at knowing when to say no so that I am not miserable while out. -Elizabeth (team member)

    1. well said...it's also easier to cancel on "long time friends" because they're more understanding.

      1. 100%! It can definitely be awkward if it is someone you don't know well, but I still stick with my rules. Nothing worse than being out and being miserable. -Elizabeth (team member)

    2. I agree with Elizabeth! Your wellbeing is more important than someone's feelings, especially for situations like this! It can really stink having to cancel on someone but you know what's best for you at the end of the day. ~Michaela (irritablebowelsyndrome.net Team Member)

      1. I totally agree as well! I've also realized that I'm not good at being social when I'm not well anyway, so there really is no point in going somewhere. However, I've learned the hard way that it's better to be honest rather than inventing an excuse like "I have to work the next day", at least with friends. Karina (team member)
