I have had problems with occasional diarrhea for about 20 years now, but they really intensified after having to undergo pelvic radiation 5 years ago. Since then, my life has been severely restricted by unpredictable bouts of this devil. The diagnosis for this particular condition is "radiation enteritis."
One day, while surfing the internet looking for new information, I came upon a few articles and YouTubes about a disease call Bile Acid Malapsorption (BAM). This discovery has changed my life. Rather than go into details, I will just tell you that the day I started taking one of the medications prescribed for this condition - a wonder drug called Cholestyramine - my problems of the past 20 years vanished.
Sadly, there is no cure for this disease, but it can be treated with daily use of the medication. There are other options one can try if this particular one doesn't work.
There seems to be more awareness of this disease and its treatment in the UK than here in the US. My doctor said she had heard of the medication, but only in the context of patients who suffered from the effects of gall bladder removal.
At any rate, I hope this information gives hope to a few of you out there and that you can have the same "miraculous" results as have I. Good luck to all of you! I understand.
As I write this, I feel so lucky to have accidentally found the solution to my chronic diarrhea and I hope by reaching out to this group, at least one of you will have the same positive outcome as mine.
