“ normal” BMs

Can one have IBS with pretty normal bowel habits…
Thank you

  1. Yes definitely. IBS can be moderate to severe, and symptoms can ebb and flow. Have you always had pretty normal bowel habits since being diagnosed? -Elizabeth (team member)

    1. Thank you so much for your input.

I’m in the midst of it all at the moment.

Sporadic episodes over the years… I’ve been lucky! Mostly stress driven , docs said.
      In between, good bowel habits.

Now It’s the cramping and back discomfort that seem to be hanging on …. Hmmmm…while BMs are pretty ok

and so I’m wondering about too much fibre as I wait for an exploratory ultra sound . I appreciate the medical thoroughness at my tender age. 79 3/4.

      1. Stress is one of my biggest triggers when it comes to my own chronic illness. I still remember driving to my college interview in the back seat of my parent's car, my stomach was hurting so bad that I couldn't sit up. The stress was making things go bonkers! In the decades since I have learned to manage my stress using medication and other techniques and I've gotten pretty good at it but now that I am a caretaker for my aging parent, the stress is creeping back up again. Sufficed to say - I know exactly how you feel and you are not alone! Please let us know the results of the ultrasound if you feel like sharing and in the meantime, keep on keepin' on, DPM

    2. Daniel ! That’s it exactly … from childhood on, called a “sick tummy” in my day… kept me from many a fun event.
It was sporadic and so it has taken a long time to actually validate…. Drs have been kind but it was never severe enough for long enough at any stretch to get their full attention…mostly just wanted to give me anti-depressants ….and so I’ve limped along.. and now in aging with the system worn out, it’s seemingly presenting more seriously and getting the drs attention for sure !
Like you, I have tools in the toolbox, meditation, yoga… even got a ukelele to distract my mind from the pain.
This time is a biggie tho, and yes I’ll definately share the ultra sound results…
I did want to add that I too was caregiver to my parents for many years. Mum died at 97 and Dad, 8 months later at 101!
I wish you well in managing your stress in this role and cheer you on.
Thanks again ! Take good care.

      1. Thank you so much for the kind words and I love the Ukulele! With my RA, though, no real hope of playing it ever but still, I like to listen to it! They also wanted to give me anti depressants at one point but I was old enough by then to say no, I don't think this is what I need. 97 and 101!! Wow, my own grandparents lived to 94 and 96 and I thought that was a lot. You got that long-life DNA in you! Ha ha. Keep on keepin' on, DPM
