Metamucil

I have been taking Metamucil nightly for about 20 years since being diagnosed with diverticulosis.
I have been suffering with IBS for about 10 years.
During my last 2 IBS incidents I completely stopped taking the Metamucil and the symptoms were gone in 24 hours. Is it possible that the Metamucil is causing my IBS?
I already know that there are some vegetables that I cannot eat because they are too high in fiber so I’m thinking that the Metamucil may be cumulatively causing my IBS flare ups. Am I crazy?

  1. No you aren't crazy. I don't see why that wouldn't be possible. Stay off the Metamucil and see if you continue to feel well. If so, it was definitely the Metamucil. -Elizabeth (team member)

    1. I have never taken Metamucil, but I know that fibre makes me worse. As far as I know, I don't have diverticulosis and haven't ever had diverticulitis but I have to be careful with fibre with my IBS-D.
For diverticulosis usually a healthy diet which has fibre is recommended though it can be irritating for "diverticulitis". Can you speak to your doctor?
