Loperimide and ibs

Hi all. Looking for advise please. I have suffered with IBS for a number of years. Recently I have had ?foodpoisoning. ?virus followed by a course of antibiotics for a dental infection. This in turn led to episodes of diarrhoea which is ongoing. I have started to introduce different foods into my diet to try and identify triggers that may cause diarrhoea. I take loperamide when these episodes occur and am wondering could I take this daily? TIA

  1. Thanks for reaching out. While you don't need a prescription for Loperamide, it's important to speak with your doctor about how often you use it. Your doctor will take into account your unique history and current symptoms. In addition to speaking with your doctor, this article covers the various antidiarrheals as well as some helpful links on fiber, probiotics, making dietary changes, reducing stress, adding exercise, or using complementary or alternative treatments that may be helpful: https://irritablebowelsyndrome.net/medications/anti-diarrhea-medication-for-ibs-treatment. Wishing you some lasting relief ahead. Best, Kelly, Irritablebowelsyndrome.net Team Member

    1. I would highly recommend going to a gastroenterologist! Mine said that I'm allowed to take up to 4 Imodium a day. With that tool in my belt, I feel almost unstoppable! How have you been feeling as of late? Did you end up pursuing any medical help for some means of relief? Would love to know! Thank you so much for sharing with us. Sending positive thoughts your way 🙌 ~ Sawyer (team member)
