Living with ibs-d

Hi everyone,my name is Todd im from australia nsw central coast,im new to this discussion group, but i would like to forward my personal views on ibs-d.I have had ibs-d clinically diagnosed 1983 i was 21 years of age,it wasnt called Ibs-d or c or m,it was called nervous dypsepcia, excuse my spelling, back in the day when the doctors couldnt work out what was wrong with you,so you see,ive had it since 1983,and i still have it,2024,please be advised, there is no cure for it,if you have it,you have probably worked out,you have to live with it,i just read on here, that a certian member was cured? Was it ibs thou,or another bowel issue, you cant cure herpes simplex 1 or 2,you take medication to control it,it just wont disappear.Back in 1986 they trialled a drug called Librax, some of you whom has ibs from the earlier years may have taken this drug,i called it the wonder drug,it was an absolute dream to have this medication, what it did, was,it has 2 different drugs in it,one was to relax the bowel of any spasms, and pain associated with ibs,and the other drug was for the nervous system, you see when taken,it would send a message from the brain to the gut,to say,im not going to the toilet it can wait,i was on it for 6 years, and then they took it off the shelves in the US,because the drugos new it contained a calming effect, and so,i now have to live with this chronic diease for life.Over the years ive had 8 colonoscapys, and they have found nothing, its mind over matter, you learn to control yout thoughts and try very hard not to go into panic mode,i could say alot more, but if anyone is up for a chat sometime,id love to hear your opinons on this subject,oh im going to try a drug called Dicyclomine as from next week,i will let you all know how i go,thanks and i hope you found this interesting.Thats me and my deceased lab,who i loved very much

  1. Hi Todd, welcome to our community and thank you so much for sharing your story with us! Just like you said, there is no cure for IBS, so we're all just trying to find ways to reduce our symptoms. Some community members have found effective ways to manage and prevent their symptoms, so maybe that's why they were talking about healing?
I had no idea about the Librax medication that worked so efficiently for IBS! That sounds like dream indeed. I hope Dicyclomine will work for you. Please keep us updated!
    Wishing you all the best,
    Karina (team member)
