Incomplete evacuation with sensation and some elimination

Hello, within the past couple of months I've developed constipation with incomplete evacuation. The pattern has been recently, since I started taking Colace, that I will have at least two to three normal eliminations in the morning, but then I'm left with a feeling like after the last one that I still have more to eliminate. If something does come out later on it's often somewhat small and soft and hard to get out. I don't know whether this would put me under IBS C or d given that I have aspects of both constipation to some extent but also the soft stools, which are not watery like diarrhea but are still soft based on how they look and feel when they come out and are therefore hard to push out. Has anyone else had this experience? The sensation that I get after my final normal poop is excruciating because I feel like I have to go and nothing normally comes from it unless I give a lot of effort to try to get it out. My stools are normal and and usually pretty substantial when they come out in those first couple of times in the morning, but then at times when I do actually get something in that later time of the day it is often small and soft and therefore harder to push out (not always but sometimes. This happened when I was trying to go to bed after 11:00 last night, and I was in stuck in there having to push out all the small pieces). Any assistance or information that someone could give me would be greatly appreciated given the level of discomfort that I'm sometimes feeling. It's like something is pushing on my lower colon and I can't get it to come out even though the sensation is strong sometimes. I should also mention that I've always had some problem with eliminations, although they used to be more like soft stools than the constipation of experiencing now, so I believe I went from one type of IBS to another.

  1. So sorry you are going through this. It is especially frustrating when your IBS decides to change and lead you for a wild ride. I would alternate between constipation and diarrhea as well. Honestly, I would take a deep dive into looking at your diet. What are you mostly eating? Are you having enough fiber? If not look into a fiber supplement. Also, taking probiotics helped me a lot with improving bowel movements. -Elizabeth (team member)
