IBS Symptoms and Flare up

Male 41

Hi all I got diagnosed with IBS at 35 after a change of bowel habits and pains in my stomach area specifically my right side (I now know to be trapped wind) after eating a Subway sandwich the next day these new pains and feelings

I found meat to be a trigger for me so for the past 6 years I've ate a fish diet though Salmon can be hit and miss

Symptoms are IBS-D and sometimes IBS-C (IBS-C when my stomach has been battered), trapped wind and bloating, stomach cramps.

The trapped wind and bloating have now gone down so I no longer look like a pregnant man lol still have the stomach cramps though they seem to be settling down and not as bad though it's taking a few weeks with this flare up

Just wondering if anyone else ever gets this feeling of when will my stomach get back to normal (well normal for a non flare lol)

  1. Oh yes, you are not alone. The intense bloating can be overwhelming and you think to yourself "will this ever go away?" I find for me, staying away from processed meats is so important. Definitely no Subway, ever, it just makes me sick. Fish is a great solution. I find that salmon can be hit or miss. I like cod, mahi mahi, snapper and branzino. Those alway sit well with me and are easy to digest. Lots of cooked veggies. Soups and broths are always a good idea. I drink kefir and find that it helps. Anything fermented is good too as it offers the stomach good bacteria. Staying away from sugar until the bloat goes away is also very helpful. -Elizabeth (team member)
