IBS-M? Join our dedicated discussion!

We wanted to create a dedicated space where those living with IBS with mixed bowel movement (IBS-M) can come together to learn and share in one space. Are you living with IBS-M? Do you have words of support or questions? Share here!

IBS with mixed bowel habits (IBS-M) means you have a combination of constipation and diarrhea. One day you may have constipation. The next day you may have diarrhea.

  1. I think that IBS-M is the best possible version of IBS, compared to -D and -C. I started with -C, it morphed into -D, finally settling into -M. I find it much easier to treat, and with few to no medications.

    1. I'm glad that this version of IBS feels easier for you! Karina (team member)

  2. I have had this all my life! Nothing helps. I have MS, OSTEOPOROSIS, and, live alone. I rarely go out. As a youngster,my mom would give me paragorhic before I went to school. If I have to go out, I don't eat or drink anything. I am 74 and don't go to family events. My family has stopped asking me to attend events. 😕

    1. I'm so, so sorry. , who commented above, also has MS in addition to her IBS, so you're not alone. I suppose that you must have done so many tests and seen so many doctors as a child as well?
It's terrible that you family stopped asking you to attend events. 🙁 I get if they don't want to put pressure on you, but it's so sad to not even be invited.... Are you still regularly talking to them in other settings? Sending big hugs, Karina (team member)

  3. daughter helps, and, my son in law does too.I actually don't blame them for stopping to include me. I have bowed out of so many things, due to IBS, that it is totally understandable. Thank you for your message. MS is often blamed for the IBS,and, I am sure it adds to it, but, I had issues years before my diagnosis. I have been a peer support counselor for newly diagnosed patients. MS, like IBS, is very unpredictable. You never know what the day might bring.
    Have a wonderful weekend !

    1. I'm glad that they help so that you aren't alone! I can only imagine how hard it must be to juggle both MS and IBS.
How was your weekend? I hope you didn't have too many symptoms.
All the best, Karina (team member)

  4. I was first diagnosed with IBS D but occasionally get constipated for a day or two, which resolves itself naturally, when I eat some of those forbidden foods that "make me go". In that sense I don't mind it at all, as it gives me a chance to eat those foods. And often my little bout of constipation leads on to a period of my gut being fairly normal.
I also feel better in myself and have more energy when I get those constipation days. But they don't happen very often. It's not caused by any medication like Imodium, it just happens. It's like my gut moves too fast most of the time, then suddenly slams the brakes on and slows down. I don't know why.

    1. Yes, I was just thinking....if my gut was a car, it would have got pulled over by the cops a few times now for dangerous driving. The driver (i.e. me) would definitely have had to take a breathalyser test!

    2. That's a great analogy, I love that! 😀 It would be nice to have some internal police that took care of our unstable gut. Karina (team member)
