IBS-C and GERD/Stomach Burning

I'm new to this forum, so hello to all! I've had IBS-C for many years which has gradually worsened over time (I'm now 62). Over the past few months some of the symptoms have really ramped up in frequency and severity, seemingly with no cause. One in particular, burning stomach and reflux has been just awful. It used to be I would have this in a flare-up for maybe 4 or 5 days, then it would back down to a tolerable level (but not vanish entirely). Now it's pretty much a daily thing. I saw another post in this site somewhere saying it felt like their stomach was on fire. Yep, and it churns and burns. I do take Pepcid which seems to only help a little, and sometimes not much at all. I also have fibromyalgia and several other chronic woes, including pressure in my head that feels like blocked ears, and constant tinnitus and postnasal drip. My question to this group is two-fold: what have you done to help with the burning and reflux, and also: do you also have the mysterious head symptoms? Just wondering if there could be a link.

  1. Something that helped me majorly was taking Magnesium Glycinate three times a day and my reflux drastically changed. However diet is a huge part of it. As far as burning stomach and brain fog. It seems like perhaps you may have parasites or bacteria overgrowth/yeast overgrowth. Please reach out to a functional doctor or naturopathic medical doc. Google and see who is in your area. I saw one and found that I had overgrowths. I was given specific supplements for my case and I felt so much better. Best of luck, Elizabeth (team member)

    1. Thanks for your reply! I do take Magnesium Malate and Glycinate in liquid form, about 2 tsp once or twice a day, but wondering lately if I should increase the dose. By overgrowth, do you mean SIBO? I have not had that test yet, but I should get that on my radar.

    2. Yes SIBO but also from my experience only functional doctors or naturopathic doctors do the other tests to check for yeast over growth. Even fungus, parasites. Conventional doctors don't do this, at least that was my experience. -Elizabeth (team member)

  2. Thank you, Elizabeth!

    1. Hi , I'm so sorry that you're dealing with this. This might be completely unrelated, but I wanted to share just in case: My son had terrible reflux when he was a baby, along with constipation, gas, stomach pain, constant congestion, runny nose, cough... and it was due to an allergy to cow's milk protein as well as some other foods. Cutting out the allergens drastically reduced all those symptoms. This is just to say that a dietary trigger can cause similar symptoms, but maybe you have already explored that.
I really hope you'll find a doctor who'll be able to do the tests Elizabeth suggested!
Wishing you all the best, Karina (team member)
