IBS and The Holidays

All the hustle and bustle of the holiday season isn't always the best for your IBS. Do you have specific holiday triggers? Let's discuss!

  1. Oh yes! The food and just the atmosphere. I guess the excitement of family and friends. Mind you, I. Enjoy the Holidays tremendously but I
Spend more time in the restroom. I am so glad my family and friends are aware of my issues.

    1. , here it is, the day AFTER, and I knew I was in trouble the moment nausea began and I hadn't even eaten anything yet. I nearly made it to my own restroom too. It's a good thing I ALWAYS wear layered pads in my underwear. However, they didn't entirely save the day. I don't wash underwear/clothing that I've soiled; it's off to the garbage with those! So yeah, I had 2 showers today, and the bathroom got a good scrubbing as well. I dosed myself with some extra Hyoscyamine ER and Zofran. Now it feels like the Sahara in my mouth and my eyeballs are dry as heck. Better than being afraid to bend over or stand up. I despise this affliction. 😞

    2. Always a trade off for us chronic illness sufferers, isn't it? We can either have doubled-over bathroom issues or a mouth as dry as the Sahara. It's always decisions like that! Wouldn't it be nice if they jsut made a pill that just made it all better and no side effects? HA! What a world that would be, eh? Well, at least know you are not alone! Keep on keepin' on, DPM

  2. I enjoy the holidays with my family and all the food and treats that I forget that I don't have my colon anymore it was removed in 1998 after six years of battling UC and losing; that I overindulge and the next day I pay with my IBD pain in the gut and diarrhea. I would hope that by the Christmas gathering that I have learned my lesson and don't overdo it.

    1. Unfortunately I think that's a lifelong thing for those of us who live with chronic illness! I know that even after decades of overdoing it myself, I still push myself far beyond the point where I know I am going to pay for it the next few days. I think we just don't want to miss out on anything or let people down, so we trade off discomfort on ourself! Maybe one day we will learn how to stop when we should, and in the meantime, have a happy holiday season! Keep on keepin' on, DPM

  3. Thanks, maybe we can learn moderation.

    1. I can really relate to that, too. It's so hard to stay disciplined when you just want to enjoy the moment.
How are you feeling now, have you recovered from your Thanksgiving?
Hopefully, you'll be able to have a lovely Christmas without having to pay for it after.

  4. I literally have to stay away from ALL Christmas food! I can't even have a glass of mulled wine, or even cast a glance at a mince pie.
There is too much richness in all of those foods for me. Too much fibre, fruits, spices etc.
My best Christmas dinner is salmon steak (or any other fish) white rice, a sprinkle of parsley, maybe some green salad, and some steamed veggies. I can have some dark chocolate for "pudding" and that's it. I could eat some plain sponge cake but who serves that at Christmas??
A big fat nope then, to ALL Christmas food and all that feasting.

    1. Your version of a Christmas dinner sounds delicious, too. 😀
I'm weirdly okay with mulled wine, but I can relate to Christmas foods being far too rich. How will you be celebrating Christmas this year?
