Ibs and bladder infection. Treatment .

Have recently just been told I have an infection in my bladder and bowel.I have ibs d and c .Its resistant to a whole lot of antibiotics but unfortunately I am highly sensitive to alot. They have given me a sachet 3g one off treatment and I'm scared to take it.They gave me a list of side effects which with someone already in a state of anxiety was a stupid thing to do.They are the worst I have read and now I can't eat can't sleep stomach is churning literally flipping out. They said it'd e coli though so I am going to have to take something.Has anyone heard of fosfomycin ? Or has anyone taken it ? The thing is if it's tablets and I react I can just stop but this is slow acting so once I have taken it that's it really .i know all tablets have side effects but these are off the scale !sorry its so long it's for my wife and she is really anxious 😟 thank you .

  1. Hi , I'm so sorry your wife is going through that. The list of side effects for antibiotics is horrible, I really feel you. I've taken fosfomycin for a UTI and it was fine for my IBS-D. I've had to take those one-off antibiotic treatments twice in the past couple of years—one for the UTI and another for an infection of my digestive system—and both were okay, with no significant side effects. Even if I did have side effects, the relief I got from my symptoms would have been worth it.
You could also talk to your pharmacist about potentially taking probiotics alongside the treatment to help mitigate any side effects. This can help a lot with the diarrhea from antibiotics.
Please let me know if this is helpful!
