Have you had gallbladder surgery? (IBS M)

Hello folks I'm 40 female last year diagnosed with gallstone of 14mm it was asymptomatic lately but I started feeling so much nauseated 🤮 past few months and having bouts of indigestion and flare-ups. My question is someone who has gallbladder removed and their IBS symptoms doesn't get worsened or something pls help out with your positive response

  1. I'm soon others will chime in who have had the procedure. I have not had my gallbladder removed but my mother just did. The procedure was very seamless, she had it done laparoscopically. She has had zero symptoms since.

I also have another family member who had hers removed and she also had zero symptoms.

On the other hand, I have heard others in the community say that it worsened their IBS. Is you IBS currently flaring? Do you deal with it daily? -Elizabeth (team member)

  2. I'm sorry you're dealing with gallstones and nausea. 🙁 We have a couple of articles where community members have shared their experiences (in the comments, too), like this one: https://irritablebowelsyndrome.net/clinical/gallbladder-removal-ibs, this one: https://irritablebowelsyndrome.net/living/gallbladder-removal, as well as this one: https://irritablebowelsyndrome.net/living/hypothyroidism. Unfortunately, some people do see their IBS symptoms increase after gallbladder surgery, but certainly not everyone. I really hope that you'll be able to find the right solution for you. Wishing you all the best, Karina (team member)
