Disability

Why have they not approved IBS for disability? I worked all my life and would like to work again but I have not been able to keep working due to IBS issues.

  1. I wish I had the answer to that. Hopefully it will change in the future. -Elizabeth (team member)

    1. I have seen it on forms for jobs, so maybe they've added it. That would be a helpful step! Cheers, Michaela (irritablebowelsyndrome.net Team Member)

      1. I have recently started missing a lot of work, a lot! I wish we could be permanently disabled due to IBS, it's life changing/debilitating. I do currently have FMLA so I can miss 2 days per week and they can't fire me, but I am not getting paid because I always exhaust was little PTO I accrue from the days I do work. Its so frustrating.

        1. I have been thinking about that, but it also scares me to not leave the house. I already suffer from Major Depression and Anxiety. I have people in my life who shut themselves in.
but at the same time, having to literally run to the bathroom 5-7 times minimum a day at work isn't feasible either..

        2. Oh I hear you. I understand what you mean about shutting yourself in. It is certainly possible to create a routine for yourself to make sure you get out. Signing up for a class for example. Or having a work out buddy. But you absolutely know what is best for you. Everyone is so different and you have to weigh the pros and cons. -Elizabeth (team member)
