Area of pain

Doctors are treating me for ibs although I've not seen one face to face .
The pain i get is always at the very bottom of my belly .A desperate need to open my bowels in the morning ( sometimes 3 times ) then i get pain in my anus for a long time after .....do these symptoms sound like ibs ? ..im now on Mebeverine but no improvement! Thanks

  1. It definitely can be IBS. Are you able to get a colonoscopy? -Elizabeth (team member)

    1. Hi ..I had some bloods done and stool sample .All came back normal .So they dont feel I need a colonoscopy yet !
      Thanks for reply

  2. It could be IBS. I don't get pain as such unless I get trapped wind. But I often get discomfort and distension in my lower abdomen. I never seem to get problems anywhere else but there. Mine is a feeling of pressure and 'discomfort' and tummy noises, and wind shifting and moving around, and of course I often swell up in the evening if I dare to eat vegetables ! (which I do anyway.) It comes and goes with me.
My doctor did the same as yours. He did 3 stool tests for different things and a blood test, and they were all completely normal. He then told me a huge list of things it couldn't be....any inflammatory bowel conditions, celiac, cancer, infection, etc etc.
He saw no red flags so no need for a colonoscopy. I was very relieved. I really hated the idea of having to get one.
Over time I haven't got worse as a general thing, so guess his judgement was right.
I occasionally get an awful anal pain too. I have been told by the doctor (years ago before IBS) that is Proctalgia Fugax. Apparently, it's a muscle spasm in the pelvic floor muscles.
It's a horrible severe pain that lasts all of....20 minutes max. yet will literally have me rolling on the floor! Then when it goes, it's gone for ages. Is yours like that?
Levator Ani syndrome is another thing you could check your symptoms against, and/or speak to your doctor. But of course your pain may be neither of those things.
But certainly lower abdominal pain or discomfort, urgency in the mornings, having to 'go' 3 or even more times, and testing negative on all the stool and blood tests is possibly indicative of IBS
