Anyone's feedback with Silicol Gel?

I wondered if anyone here has tried Silicol Gel? (for IBS-D) And did it help at all.
I bought some last night and am going to try it when it arrives, hopefully tomorrow.
I got the worst flares recently for no reason I can figure out and am still not quite right, so hoping this helps.

  1. Hi there! I hope you get some feedback from our community on their personal experiences. I have heard generally mixed reviews on Silicol Gel. Some find relief and others say relief is fleeting and it doesn't do much. I'd consult with your medical team or trusted pharmacist to ensure that any OTC treatments you're trying aren't going to interact with a medication or each other. Wishing you some success and relief with this!! Best, Kelly, Irritablebowelsyndrome.net Team member

    1. Thanks, Kelly. Yes, that's good advice. Fortunately I'm not on any other medication but I hear that Silicol gel can bind to medicines and make them ineffective so that's super important.

I've also heard from a few people in the last few days who say it helped them....for a couple of weeks or maybe a month, then it stopped working.

I think I will save it for flares, and when I am not too bad, won't take it.
Guess what? Now after a "D" flare up, I'm constipated!! 🙁 So I won't take it right now.
I am sure that a few veggies will sort that for me though, and I am lucky that they probably will, considering what some go through with IBS-C.

      1. Sorry you are now dealing with IBS-C. I hope the gel offers you relief when you do use it. Deep breaths. This too shall pass. Rooting for you that you will get through this. Big hugs, Elizabeth (team member)

    2. I'll just update about what happened when I tried silicol gel.
I'd been having a bit of a down time gut-wise for 9 days, but one morning it was a bit worse of a flare with the "D". So that day I took the silicol gel as instructed on the bottle.
I didn't really like it, either the texture (yuck!....slimy) and the peculiar almost gritty bits in it. Also, I think it would be nice if it had some slight flavour. Perhaps slightly lemony would have been nice, because the texture was no fun, and a pleasant taste would have helped. It was rather like taking spoonfuls of snot.
      Yes...yuck.
The next morning what happened was the bowel movement was still quite soft (5-6), and not much could be passed, so it was almost like a kind of constipation, though soft. I had a feeling of incomplete evacuation.
I didn't take it the next day, just to see what would happen. Not much did. No bad flares but still not right really.
Then my flare phase just calmed down which it probably would have anyway, as it does its own thing like that, don't I know! I feel better now.

I probably didn't give silicol gel a good enough test. Anyway I'll take it again if /when needed again, and maybe next time do it for a few days.

      1. Keep us posted. I'm glad to hear things have calmed down at least. Rooting for you, Elizabeth (team member)
