Accidents with IBS-D?

In the last few weeks since my symptoms have acted up I have been having some accidents at night or during the day from passing gas. Sometimes it is a little soil to a bit morning. I feel I am passing gas in my sleep or while awake.

I was suppose to have a colonoscopy today but I have a positive Covid test and am battling those mild symptoms. Now it is another 4 weeks before the next scheduled colonoscopy.

As I have posted on her in the recent weeks my symptoms started April 21 and have continued. I have seen some improvement with taking fiber. I have some almost solid stool to liquid stool during the day.

Though I am wondering if others have had accidents during sleep or when passing gas?

Thanks,
Christa

  1. Christa, I am glad you are planning a colonoscopy when you are over COVID. COVID has been known to cause significant problems with diarrhea. I have a friend who had onset of explosive diarrhea after she had COVID. It has now become "long COVID" and she is really having a hard time. (for the last 18 mos) You may also ask your doctor if they could screen for Celiacs Disease. It is a genetic component that is often activated by an illness. Ask your doctor if taking imodium routinely, 2-3 times per day is an option. If constipation becomes an issue on imodium do not completely stop, but reduce dose amount (find dose that works for you) If you are dealing with painful bloating and more gas that normal consider taking simethacone, it helps break down the gas into smaller bubbles and moves it out more easily. Do follow up with diagnostic eval even while working to resolve this issues. Good luck!

    1. I have the same problem. I take an anti-diarrheal 3xday plus anti-gas pills. Also I have a prescription for Bentyl that I take. They help to some extent but I still have break throughs. It's depressing and I don't know what else to do.

      1. I am so sorry you are having such a tough time. I also take Bentyl from time to time and it is a hit and miss sort of thing. Having IBS is extremely frustrating. I hope you are able to find some relief. Please know that you have an entire community here for support when you need it. 😀 -Amy, Irritablebowelsyndrome.net team member

    2. I'm so sorry to hear about this :/ I've never had problems during sleeping, only during the day. I wish you well hang in there 😀
