My story

I’m in my 70’s, had about 6” of colon removed because of diverticulitis. My father had diverticulitis and eventually died of colon cancer. I’ve had constipation for a good number of years. Then about a month ago, I had coffee, egg McMuffin and hash browns. I then experienced the worst diarrhea ever and had stomach pains for over a week. So things got a little better and I was trying to eat only fruits, vegetables and meat like chicken or something plain. Then last Saturday was my daughter’s birthday and I ate chocolate cake and ice cream. Big mistake. I had another episode so on Tuesday I went to see my doctor. She diagnosed me with IBS-D and Diverticulitis. Put me on Viberzi. So now I am just trying to make my way down this unfamiliar path.

Hi @granisam – thanks for taking the time share your story. I’m so sorry to hear about your and your father’s history with diverticulitis, and his eventual passing. It can be really tough to find the foods that trigger your symptoms. Since you’ve been recently diagnosed, I wanted to share a few articles with you that I hope you find helpful:
