Blindsided

68 year old male college professor. I was blessed with good health all my life until 2016. Within one week I was Dx with prostatitis and IBS-C. It was a nightmare. Now taking Proscar and Rapaflow for BPH. Tried every over the counter drug on the market. GI prescribed Linzess and Trulance but both gave me terrible side effects. Currently taking 2 Tbsp. of MOM at nite and a 8 oz glass of prune juice in AM and PM. Each day brings new challenges. No 2 days are the same. I changed my teaching schedule to evening classes as my mornings are a “fog”. I am retiring this December b/c my anxiety and depression issues are interfering with my quality of work. I hope to acquire valuable info from this site.

Hi, @bigwhole – I’m really glad you found our site! I’m so sorry to hear that you were hit with these conditions at the same time. That must have been really tough. Your experience with medications is not uncommon here. Many folks here have experienced some symptom relief by altering their diets. One diet in particular, the low FODMAP diet, is popular in this community. Here’s some more information:

Since everyone’s IBS is different, some trigger foods will be different from one person to the next. However, this is a good place to start. I hope this is helpful. Please keep us updated! – Chris, IrritableBowelSyndrome.net Team Member
