Salad and ibs

Hi all, the one meal I am really missing is a salad of lettuce cucumber and tomato. I have in the past tried more than once to have a salad but suffered the usual abdo cramps and diahorrea. Any advice please as I really, really would like to taste these salad foods again. TIA

  1. I am sorry. It's sad when we can't eat our favourite foods! I definitely found that steaming all my vegetables was the only way for me to be able to digest properly. And they mustn't be OVER cooked either. Just right, and things are better.
As time has gone by I have sometimes been able to eat some salad foods; lettuce, peeled cucumber (and not too much of it, maybe max. 2"😉 and now I can eat about 1/4 to 1/3 of an avocado too. Sometimes I have been able to eat raw watercress and parsley too, but that ability can come and go.
Usually I chop watercress and add it on top of my steamed vegetables for the last 2-3 minutes or so of cooking.
With lettuce and cucumber, I started off only having 2 well washed little gem lettuce leaves with a meal. I waited to see of that was OK. Then a few days later would have about 3 slices of peeled cucumber....repeat waiting to see what happened.
Most of the time now I can eat those things, but there are also times my gut doesn't much like them. No dramas, just slightly looser stool the next day. I just use my instincts.
I miss tomatoes. I tried them and was OK the first day. I did the same again the next day and oops! I even ate them skinned. No difference. One day I will try them again and see. (in very small amounts to start with)
Lettuce, cucumber and tomatoes are all low FODMAP but we have to find the foods that suit us individually, and for me, not all the low Fodmap foods do.

But I remember I had to go for a while with absolutely NO raw foods, until I managed to tolerate very small amounts of salad most of the time. It took a while.
Salad is notorious for "making you go" anyway!

    1. Thank you very much for your reply like you I intend trying different foods very slowly thanks
