Is there a link between IBS and rosacea?

I suffer with IBS, but also rosacea... I was "officially" diagnosed with IBS last April. But This year, I've decided to take care of me and what I also suffer with, is rosacea... It's been a long time that I have redness on my face, on my cheeks, sensitive dry skin, and it's also embarrassing... As far as I remember, it probably started when my IBS started too... I've just read about someone who suffer with rosacea on a french IBS forum. Are there any studies about a possible link between IBS and rosacea ?

  1. Hi, ollivier71! Good to hear from you! That's a very interesting question. I hadn't previously heard of a link between IBS and rosacea, and we don't have any content on it, but I was able to track down a study that suggests that there's a link: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/27501017. The researchers' conclusion was that rosacea is associated with certain types of gastrointestinal diseases, but the cause is unknown. I hope that helps! - Chris, IrritableBowelSyndrome.net Team Member

    1. Hi ollivier71. I was also diagnosed with rosacea x2 and given the usual topicals for it, told to avoid trigger food, etc. until I had a huge flare up and found I really had lupus! I had been misdiagnosed for over 10 years! Point being, if you haven't been to a really good dermatologist, do yourself a favor and see one. It may bery well be rosacea, which is no fun and not easy to control. But in my case, I had several docs look at me and not catch that I had lupus.

    2. Hi BirdMom,

      Thank you for your comment.

I Think that The dermatologist I had been to is a really good one, He took time to examinate, but you're right, I should see another one, just to confirm.

      Thank you

      Ollivier71

  2. Wow - I have both as well, but never heard of a link!
