IBS and long COVID

I have had IBS for 40 years but it has never been as bad as during the past 3 years. I am wondering if my symptoms have worsened due to long COVID as I think I had COVID in February of 2020 when no tests were available. Has anyone else experienced worsening symptoms?

  1. I'm so sorry that your symptoms have gotten worse. You're not alone, other members have complained about similar issues (linked below).

Have you gotten tests done to make sure that it isn't due to something else (bacterial infection, parasite, another illness etc.)? If not, I would suggest talking to your doctor about it, just to be sure.
I hope that other community members will chime in to share their experiences with you.

    1. I am not sure but think possibly Covid worsened my IBS. I was getting occasional IBS symptoms prior to early 2020 but those were quite rare. Then just before I got Covid I had a week long episode which cleared up. Then I got Covid April 2020.
Now at first, when I had cough, fever etc, my gut was perfect. It was great because I could eat anything I liked and had many comforting soups and stews, onions, garlic, oranges, etc. It was like a holiday....with a short fever. I got better slowly from it though it left me with heart palpitations and weight loss and some weakness, but slowly I got my strength back and gained some weight again.
      My gut was still fine.
It was about 6-8 weeks after Covid went that the IBS came back and just stuck around and hasn't quite gone since, though I get remission periods when I can feel quite good, and those are a bit longer now.

      1. Doctors are coming to realize that Covid is a vicious virus that can affect every part of your body. For me, it caused kidney damage.

    2. I have ibs it was maybe once every three months
Then in May I got covid. My stomach aches and nausea, small cough, headache or migraine every day. I’ve been off work since May.
I’ve had every test that they can do. They changed all my meds. And nothing that says what it is. I’m frustrated

      1. Oh no, I'm so sorry. Did none of the symptoms get better at all once the acute infection was over? It must be so frustrating to not have any answers. I hope you'll find some relief soon.
