Fainting on the toilet

Sometimes when i get really bad cramps and go to the toilet i become really light headed, hear only ringing and get chills. does anyone know what this is? is it preventable?

  1. It's to do with the vagus nerve. See link attached

It's not really preventable but at least you know you are not alone with this and you are not going mad!

    1. Weakness, severe cramps, sweating, chills, ringing in the ears, fainting….have had them all and have had many thoughts that I’ve “found the culprit”—vagus nerve, hyperventilation, low blood pressure. Once I identified the condition more specifically —not just IBS but “DUMPING”, I was able to get helpful information, mostly from a nurse who has it herself and knows a lot about it. Seems for whatever reason (trigger foods inconsistent) the stomach feels it needs to empty out undigested food into the lower digestive track. This sends messages to all the related organs Iiver, kidneys, adrenals, etc) that it needs more sugar to digest. Thus we get a sugar boost and go hyperglycemic. However, then, the body reads that there’s too much sugar and we end up going hypoglycemic - thus the fainting. Now here’s the weird fix: as soon as I start feeling that an episode can really go south, I start sipping Gatorade to balance the electrolites and thus, no fainting or lightheadedness. Sounds weird, I know, but it works! You only should sip it for as long as symptoms are present and start it well before they get too bad. Usually I never need to sip more than a cup. I keep small containers of Gatorade everywhere in my house, in my car……. If I’m traveling, I keep it in my purse!

      1. Thank you so much for sharing what works for you! I'm glad that you finally found a solution, this must have been so hard to deal with.
