Embarrassing diarrhoea

I hardly get diarrhoea, but when I do it gets me at very inconvenient moments, such as at work or out in public places. I can hold diarrhoea in easily, but what makes it embarrassing is the gas. It's normal to have gas when you're about to poop, but with diarrhoea it's actually gas that creates that pressure that makes it hard to hold in. If I let the gas out before I get to a toilet I know it will really stink strongly of eggs and it will be very embarrassing. But by holding it in until I get to a toilet I feel like my bowels are going to burst from the gas.
Can this actually happen, or does it just feel that way at the time?
