Dull pain arouns ANUS and butt musles after bowel movment

Group,

Can someone might answer why I occasionally have dull ache pain around anus and butt muscles after a bowel movement. It will linger for 5 minutes and then usually go away. Any insight on this wold be appreciated. Is this part of IBS? Thank you

  1. You may have some sort of inflammation or even minor ulceration in the rectum. Or perhaps you are straining too much? -Elizabeth (team member)

    1. I hope our community members share their insights with you. I'd also encourage you to speak with your doctor about any new, changing or concerning symptoms, if you haven't already. In addition to speaking with your doctor, this article may be helpful: https://irritablebowelsyndrome.net/symptoms/tenesmus Wishing you some answers and relief soon. Best, Kelly, Team member

      1. I sometimes get what is called "Proctalgia Fugax" which is a really horrible pain in the anal area. so bad it can wake me from sleep, and can come on any time without warning. That lasts maximum 20 minutes, but usually less. It doesn't happen definitely after bowel movements though, so I don't know if yours is the same thing.
Yours might be related to some local inflammation or irritation in that area, whereas I was told mine is something to do with muscle spasms.

        1. When you sit on the toilet, are you tense and try to squeze? Because this could indeed through your muscles in that area out of balance.
If you find sitting on the toilet stressful, get a "toilet stool". They're not costly and I can't recommend them enough because of how easy a shift in degrees while sitting can help your body to relieve itself more easily (the toilet stool helps your bigger intestines to allign).
