Abdominal cramps after eating lettuce and cucumber

Hi all. I'm looking for advise once more. I ate a small amount of lettuce and cucumber and shortly afterwards experienced explosive diarrhea and severe abdo cramps, after going to bed for a while and clutching my hot water bottle symptoms have eased. Has anyone on here had similar. TIA

  1. Yes, definitely. The fiber is too much to handle if you are flaring. Raw veggies are just to hard to digest. Once you get the inflammation under control it will be okay, but in the meantime, stay away until your gut heals. Lots of bone broth, healing foods and high quality supplements like probiotics, collagen, colostrom. Things of this nature. -Elizabeth (team member)

    1. Thank you again Elizabeth for your prompt and informative reply. This information reassures me greatly.

    2. I have had to eat only steamed vegetables for some time now. I tried to eat some radishes last year because they were on the low Fodmap diet list, but they did upset my tummy the next morning. I only had 4.
I decided that raw foods were out as I was reacting badly to anything raw. So I stuck only to the really safe foods that I know are okay mostly, and bland foods.

But recently I have found I can eat a little bit of cucumber. At first I experimented with just two pieces, and I peeled it and took out the seeds. I was fine. So next time ate a bit more, and was fine again. That went on for a few weeks, and I didn't eat it every day.
So gradually I have got to the point where I can eat about 2 inches but I always peel it. And I am okay with some well washed lettuce, maybe 2 or 3 leaves of Little Gem. I chew it very very well.
It's nice to be able to introduce something else to my restricted diet.
So far, it seems to suit me and be okay. But I know that IBS can change and reactions to foods can change. But all isn't lost. Some foods will always be intolerable for the gut, and some can be gradually reintroduced.
I would definitely not eat it if I was having a 'bad gut' time though.

      1. Thanks hateibs for your reply. It gives me hope that when this flare up subsides I will try your recommendations. Again thank you.
