There is No Magic Pill To Stop IBS

This might be controversial to say, but I am convinced that if your mindset is to find a magic pill to make your irritable bowel syndrome go away, you are setting yourself up for failure.

Wishing for a simple fix

I was diagnosed with IBS back in 2011. And there is no simple, one step fix to improving your symptoms. It takes work, and diet is a big part of the puzzle. You have to change the way you live. You have to change your lifestyle.

For example, changing what you eat, lowering stress, and following a different daily routine are all important in improving your symptoms. Diet is a huge key to unlocking better health.

There are things to try

Limiting processed foods like chips, soda, microwaveable/premade meals, candy, cooking oils like canola, vegetable, safflower oil are ways to instantly improve. And eating more fish, organic protein, cooked vegetables and berries. Along with cooking with avocado or coconut oil, drinking water and taking your time to chew your food before you swallow.

Lowering stress is a huge factor. Making sure that you get at least 10 minutes in the sun a day, exercising daily for at least 30 minutes, limiting phone use, making sure you are surrounding yourself with positive people, getting at least 7 hours of sleep each night are some ways to lower stress. Recently, I got into doing breath exercises and found that to be helpful with regulating my nervous system.

Making changes

Overall, changing your daily routine is crucial. Approaching your day in an entirely different way and rewiring the way you do life is a great way to help improve symptoms.

On the flip side, there are simple changes that can make a dramatic improvement of your symptoms. For example, when I stopped eating wheat, my symptoms drastically improved. I found that wheat was a huge instigator of my symptoms.

Another quick change is taking probiotics daily and enzymes. The quick improvement I saw were noticeable. Less urgency, less cramping and a more regular bowel movement schedule.

Improvement doesn't happen overnight

You can definitely do things to improve symptoms quickly. But my offer to you is not to think that there is a magic pill. Improving symptoms take effort and time. Nothing happens quickly overnight. And the notion that you can continue living the way you are, eating the way you are and thinking that just taking one pill will change your symptoms is a farce.

Just know that it is possible to get better. It is possible to improve urgency, and abdominal cramping and irregularity of bowel movements. But it takes effort and focus.  You must be willing to change how you have been currently eating and living to reap the efforts. A quick fix doesn’t exist via a magic pill. Take the time to make consistent changes and you will see the rewards.

Wondering if you agree? If so, what changes did you do that offered you the quickest improvements that you would suggest? Share below, we love to hear from you.
