Flare ups

Hi, I am new. I have had IBS for years. I don't know anyone else that has it. I have IBS-C. When I have a flare up I am totally exhausted afterward and completely drained for the rest of the day. Does anyone else experience this?

Thanks!

  1. Welcome to our site, trauma05! We're really glad to have you here. You're definitely not alone in the fatigue you feel as a result of your IBS-C. One of our contributors here wrote an article about her experiences with not only IBS-C and fatigue, but several other symptoms that accompany it. I thought I'd share that article with you here while we wait for others to chime in: https://irritablebowelsyndrome.net/living/ibs-c-more-than-constipation/. I hope this is helpful. Please let us know if there's any other information we can help you find! - Chris, IrritableBowelSyndrome.net Team Member

    1. Hi trauma05, and welcome! You are in very good company here. I have IBS-C, too, and yes, fatigue is a big part of the condition. Many of the people I know who have IBS also have other conditions (unfortunately) that cause fatigue, too, including fibromyalgia. It's always a good idea to check with your doctor or healthcare provider to rule out additional causes for fatigue. In addition to the article Chris shared with you, you might be interested in this one: https://irritablebowelsyndrome.net/living/yoga-poses-constipation/. I have found that warm yoga helps my IBS-C symptoms more than anything. It's gentle, soothing, and it helps to get things moving. Please let us know if you decide to try it and if it helps. And please keep us posted on how things are going with you. We love getting updates from our community members!

      1. I have IBS C as well. Since it got really intense, about a 1.5 years ago, my fatigue has gotten way worse. I quit caffeine and almost felt like I had no energy for about a month or two.

I've been on a Low FODMAP diet and try to get as much sleep as I can. My energy has started to return, but I'm often still very tired. Anxiety has always played a large role in my life and I'm trying my best to minimize and manage stress and anxiety now.

Becky, I will try those Yoga poses. I do enjoy doing Yoga.
