Bowel Movement Anxiety

  • By dawson

Does anyone else panic if they do not have a bowel movement every morning? I find I have become obsessed with this and my day is good when I poop in the morning but ruined when I don’t poop in the morning. Anyone else the same?

    Hi @dawson,
I think that just comes with the anxiety ibs gives. I used to be like that. Over the years I’ve found that writing down everything I eat and drink through out the day has been helpful for me. My anxiety isn’t as bad. I think that’s what helped me not think that I need to have to go every morning.

Hi there, I do keep a detailed food diary indeed so, if bloated, I know what I have eaten, etc. It does help. Thanks for your response.

      Hi Dawson,
I totally understand youranxiety about having a bowel movement or not having one. My constipation is so unpredictable! When I am having success I feel that I must have found the right combination with food and water intake etc. Only to experience a horrendous month with not being able to go at all without assistance. I feel like a failure and just want to be normal like other people without this problem.

Hi @dawson! I’m going through the same thing. I had the worst constipation last month, and now i’m just obsessed with all “bathroom” issues. Like, I want to go to the bathroom normally but then if I go, i’m afraid of starting to have diarrhea. It’s frustrating!!

Hi Lauren, I so hear you on this. I am afraid of going and not going and going too little and going too much. I try to calm down about it all though. Thanks for your response and I wish you well.

New here, me too, my thought always is “what consistence my stool will be?”…horrible

There must be so many people with similar issues and they just flush the toilet and live better than us

I also get these thoughts daily about how the consistency of my stool will be 🙁 I just want this suffering to end and live normal again.

I just now found this website and I’m glad there are other people I can relate to

    first post here.

YES! That determines a good day, or a sick day for me. I have just recently been diagnosed with IBS. I started an IBS diet four days ago, plus I am doing core exercises to strengthen my abdominal muscles.
I dreaded this last BM something fierce. It came at 1am this morning. This is the first time in five months that I have not felt sick after the BM. ( keeping my fingers crossed )
Maybe this will end a long chapter of stomach related illness I have had off and on for 20 years. I am 66 years old, male, with a life partner of 27 years.
I am very glad to have found this forum!
