I have the exact same thing. The upper belly pain is worse than my lower. I am nauseated most of the time. Severe indigestion. I take Zantac and nausea meds that help some. I also take Bentyl. My doctor put me on Norpramin, a very low dose, to help with some anxiety and IBS diarrhea. It helps. But as you know, nothing takes the pain completely away unfortunately.

YES! I was wondering the same thing. My IBS symptoms are almost always in my upper abdomen. I suffer with pain under my ribs on both sides, sometimes in the middle, sometimes down both sides of my abdomen. I feel it sometimes in my throat, but not like acid indigestion that is typically described. Sometimes I even feel kike a fluttery feeling or fullness in my throat. It’s weird. I’ve had all kinds of tests, Upper GI, colonoscopy, CT scan, ultrasounds, HIDAscan to look at my gallbladder function….thankfully all came back normal. So they say IBS. I feel symptoms almost daily. It’s terrible! It all started after a bout with Giardia, a parasite that I have no idea where I could’ve gotten it. Doc feels like i developed post infectious IBS since my symptoms didn’t go away after treatment. Then, After months of careful diet and probiotics I was feeling better. Butnin February this year I got the flu and then pneumonia. This led to being prescribed antiviral medication and antibiotics. A few weeks later I got sinusitis and another round of antibiotics, and my gut went berserk! I had diarrhea the whole time I was in antibiotics and the upper abdominal pain and yucky feeling came back with a vengeance. It’s been a few weeks now and I’m still having trouble with it.
    Any ideas?

I’m raising my hand because I’ve been suffering from IBS for guite sometime. One year ago, I got an endoscopy/colonoscopy and was diagnosed with a hiatal hernia, gerd and eosinophilic esophagitis in addition to having IBS-C. It has been rough, especially because I just took myself off of all my prescription medications and decided to go the alternative medicine path.

I have to agree with you . I started with these horrible cramps (that are actually muscle spasms ) that will knock the breath out of you . I wouldn’t shut up to my gastro nor my regular physician that I was not imagining this torture, in fact I was getting worse . I was sent to to neurologist who found that due to Ibs d my small intestines does not hold the food but passing with 15 minutes . So I found out that I have no vitamins left such as d, and all B complex’s I have none . I’m now on shots for B12 and I do liquid on The B6’s and so on .. I found out it didn’t matter what type of food , I was trying it was not working . So I’m urging you to please get your vitamins checked.. I had no idea it could make you feel like brain fog was normal. I’m now starting to feel somewhat human with some energy . I do know I was at the lowest point of my life with no energy and so darn sick and weak . There is some lasting effects from these u
Issues that are going to be lasting because of damage to my central nerve system.. so tell your doc yes it’s in my head and my gut because they are truly one ! I wish you lots of luck and blessings

Have you had your gallbladder checked? Upper stomach pain, and radiating pain in the chest and back, can be gallstones, inflamed gallbladder and pancreas issues. Gallstones are affected by diet. Ask your doctor for an ultrasound of your gallbladder and bloodwork.

Hi @chrissa – thanks for taking the time to share your story. I’m sorry to hear about the symptoms you’ve been experiencing. The lack of support from your doctor is so disheartening, but you’re not alone in this experience! Many have shared similar stories about this, too. Regarding your back pain, there’s a thread on our forums where other members are talking about their experiences with back pain.
