I just got diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis last month, I started seeing a gastroenterologist two years ago. It has been frustrating and painful, physically and emotionally. I had three upper endoscopic procedures and two colonoscopies before it was determined to be Colitis. I’m anemic despite taking iron pills everyday. I changed my diet and stopped drinking alcohol and any thing else acidic. I eat a lot of vegan food, I’m able to digest it better. I don’t eat anything greasy, before I got diagnosed I lost over twenty pounds, I have always been small so therefore I can’t afford to lose weight. Whenever i have a flare up I can’t keep anything down and my stomach hurts so bad. I have not had a flare up in a month, just praying it’s in remission and I can have a bit of peace. Good luck to everyone, keep your heads up.

sorry to hear about your frustrations but glad doctors were able to find a diagnosis. did you go to the same gastro for your endoscopies and colonoscopies? I have only had one of each and so far dr hasn’t seen anything. I am currently waiting for my biopsies from the endoscopy to come back. other then that, I am afraid that if we don’t find anything yet again, we will have to repeat either procedure again. hope you’re feeling a bit better being on remission. good luck .

Thanks for the words of encouragement, @rcwillis! I’m so glad to hear that your diet alterations have helped control your symptoms. The long road to diagnosis can definitely be frustrating! I thought you should know that we actually have a sister site for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), and the conditions (including ulcerative colitis) that fall under the IBD umbrella here: Hope this helps! – Chris, Team
