Pie Pastry Recipe

This pie pastry recipe keeps well in zip lock bag in the freezer. You can also freeze the unused dough and use at another time. This recipe is delicious!

Ingredients for pie pastry

  • 5 cups flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 lb crisco shortening
  • 1 egg
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1 tbsp vinegar

Directions for pie pastry

  1. Mix dry ingredients, flour, salt, baking powder and brown sugar.
  2. Work shortening in dry mixture.
  3. In a small bowl blend egg with water and vinegar.
  4. Add liquid mixture to dry ingredients.
  5. Dough is very sticky.
  6. Form dough in a ball and refrigerate.

    Hi @tmholland, your welcome. This has been a recipe that my mom used when making pie dough when we were kids. It’s in my collection of recipes. Also good for pot pies.
