Is there a connection between IBS-D and frequent UTIs?

Have been getting frequent bladder infections.. as well as long-term IBS D….how to keep area clean when getting diarrhea almost every day and bowel incontinence. Especially for women. Cystitis. Sitz baths are off the list! Also so many side effects from antibiotics, sulfur drugs, etc.

Thank you so much for the information, I will read asap. So nice that we have a site to discuss such private issues without feeling ashamed.

Great question, @dorise! While we wait for others to chime in, I thought you might find this study interesting. It concluded that women with IBS have a similar risk of developing UTIs as women who don’t have IBS. Thanks for taking the time to submit this question! – Chris, IrritableBowelSyndrome.net Team Member

Thanks, just read the survey. I think I understand it, but they mention IBS but not participants with IBS D vs IBS C. As I have UTIs with ecoli infection, wondered if the almost constant presence of bowel contents and leakage would be entering the bladder opening. This study gives me a base start so will try and find more info. Much appreciated.
