I’m sorry to hear about that, CarmenPagani! These IBS symptoms can definitely be scary. Is there any information I can help you find? Thanks for commenting! – Chris, IritableBowelSyndrome.net Team Member

Symptoms of both IBS-D and IBS-C can occur in people with IBS, this is typically called IBS-mixed and it’s the most common type of IBS. Feel free to learn more here: https://irritablebowelsyndrome.net/clinical/can-you-have-ibs-c-and-ibs-d-at-the-same-time/

  4. Editorial Team author says:

Mixed IBS (IBS-M) might be the most common IBS subtype. It is defined as grester than 25% of stools being loose and watery and greater than 25% of stools being lumpy and hard when you are not taking laxatives or antidiarrheals. People with IBS-M report symptoms that are common in people who have IBS with constipation (IBS-C), such as straining, the feeling of having an incomplete bowel movement, and manual evacuation of the bowels. They also report urgency, which is more typical of IBS with diarrhea (IBS-D).
