4 Incredible Resources for IBS Patients

Since I’ve been diagnosed with IBS, I’ve been on the search for all kinds of resources related to this condition, like online support groups, blogs, any information on remedies or diets, etc. At first, I didn’t have much luck finding anything I could relate to or learn much from, so I decided to create my own YouTube channel (which I will get more into later on) to help raise and spread awareness about irritable bowel syndrome. Thankfully, when IrritableBowelSyndrome.net launched I finally met others like me and was able to gather resources and information I couldn’t find before. So I put together this list of 4 incredible resources (in addition to IrritableBowelSyndrome.net) that I thought could benefit our community.

AboutIBS.org and Mayoclinic.com

I find both of these websites to be great resources because, somewhat similar to IrritableBowelSyndrome.net, they provide plenty of information in regard to describing what irritable bowel syndrome is, how it can affect a person (both physically and mentally), risk factors, tests and diagnosis, alternative treatments, and ways to cope. I find that it’s important to have multiple resources because there might be information from one that the others don’t provide.

Agutreaction.com

This blog was created by Hannah Noonan, who is a contributor on IrritableBowelSyndrome.net, where she takes us on her own IBS journey, and also provides health and diet tips for IBS patients. She is working on becoming a certified nutritionist, which is great because she’ll be able to help and personally relate to other patients who will need her expertise down the line. One of the best ways to manage our IBS symptoms is through diet, which is why Hannah’s blog is very useful and informative.

Positive vIBS YouTube Channel

My name is Hess P. and this is my YouTube channel that I created for the purpose of raising and spreading awarenessabout the difficulties of living with IBS. I share my own ways of coping through a bit of humor and by using creative forms of expression, such as songs and spoken word. I love to cook, write poetry, and play music and I use these hobbies to not only help me manage my own symptoms, but to hopefully bring a smile to others suffering on a daily basis. I know that positivity won’t cure my IBS, but I do believe it is a great aid in living with something that is a burden to handle.

Overall, I find each of these resources to be unique and capable of helping lots of IBS sufferers better manage and accept their condition. Blogging about what we go through and finding creative ways to express ourselves is currently the new wave of raising and spreading awareness for irritable bowel syndrome, or any other chronic illness for that matter. I have personally learned more about what I go through from other IBS sufferers and online resources more than I ever have from a doctor or specialist. I am thankful for IrritableBowelSyndrome.net for not only giving me a platform to express what I go through, but also for opening a door to other resources that I could not have found on my own.
