triggers

ate sweet syrup pudding and half hour later had a sudden onset of uncontrolled diarrhoea and recently had a similar experience after eating a fatty bacon roll

  1. It can be really tricky working out what are our triggers. I don't know if you get this happening, but on some days I can eat a certain food and be fine, then another time it's not fine at all. My triggers seem to be fiber, yours sound more like fats and sugar? Or could it be the gluten in the bacon roll? It's hard to tell really, isn't it?
Have you tried any experiments such as going gluten free for a few weeks and seeing if your symptoms improve?
Some fats might be okay and some not so. The only way to tell is to test them out I suppose. For example, I am fine with butter, but not so sure about olive oil or most cooking oils, though sunflower in small doses seems OK.
I am fine with sugar but daren't eat a thing with artificial sweeteners, and sorbitol is the worst. It is known for having laxative effects.
Could your syrup pudding have contained sorbitol or something similar?

        1. I second what said. Also I learned that apparently stomach acid is stronger in the afternoon than any other time of day. This is why, I find, that I can get away with having more trigger foods for lunch than for any other meal. It's interesting. -Elizabeth (team member)

          1. That's so interesting! I also find that I can have a greater variety of foods for lunch but have to keep it super simple for dinner (and not eat too much or too late). That would definitely be an explanation!
